At the Taxi
Commission
The Taxi Commission meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each
month at 6:30 p.m., in room 400 of City Hall. Special meetings may be
scheduled as needed. The following is a summary of significant commission
proceedings at recent meetings:
May 11
The commission voted to change its recently approved policy of televising
only one meeting a month and return to televising both meetings.
May 25
The commission revoked permit #1100 held by Jamie Yuen.
A motion to amend the commission's advertising wrap procedures failed.
The commission held a closed session to discuss the 25 corporate permits
operated by Veterans Cab.
June 8
The commission revoked permit #1147 held by Diane Cohen.
It amended its guidelines for taxi ad wraps to require that $100 per
wrapped cab be contributed to the taxi industry fund, and it allowed
cabs to be wrapped for the first two years of their service life. It
also held a discussion on the purpose of the taxi wrap fund.
Sgt. Vince Simpson of the Taxi Detail gave a presentation on hotel pickups.
June 22
President Arthur Jackson presented outgoing Executive Director Naomi
Little a certificate of appreciation. Little was appointed the city's
director of purchasing.
The commission discussed the proposed transfer of the Taxi Commission's
authority to the MTA.
It heard a presentation by NICA, Inc. on insurance for independent contractors.
July 13
The commission approved a letter to permit holders outlining the implementation
of the 800-hour driving requirement.
