A Rousing Rally in Defense of Prop K
Dozens of drivers picketed City Hall on April 21, while others circled the block in their cabs to oppose the inclusion of $15 million in revenues from the sale of taxi medallions in the MTA's budget. The protest was sponsored by the Coalition to Protect Proposition K, composed of United Taxicab Workers, the San Francisco Cab Drivers Association, the Asian Law Caucus and others. The MTA later approved the budget, and after much maneuvering, the Board of Supervisors voted down a motion to reject it.

Top and middle rows: Picketers march past City Hall as cabs circle the block. The car with the American flag was a driver’s private vehicle.

Bottom row speakers (l. to r.): Supervisor Eric Mar; Titi Liu, Executive Director of the Asian Law Caucus (ALC); and Irwin Lum, President of Transport Workers Union Local 250-A (representing Muni drivers and other city workers).
