At the

Taxi Commission

The Taxi Commission meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m., in room 400 of City Hall. Special meetings may be scheduled as needed. The
following is a summary of significant commission proceedings at recent meetings:

September 9

The commission discussed a rash of criminal and administrative violations by cab drivers.

It voted to oppose a proposed ordinance banning smoking in taxis.

It discussed the creation of a working group to recommend how to spend the proceeds of the Taxi Wrap Benefit Fund, formed from contributions by wrap advertisers.

September 23

The commission upheld a hearing officer's decision to revoke medallion #431, held by Azam Enazzer, for failure to comply with the Proposition K driving requirement and violation of other taxi ordinances and regulations.

October 14

The commission discussed the Controller's Report on Gate and Meter Fees. (See above.)

It approved amendments to procedures for medallion qualification and disciplinary hearings.

October 31

The commission discussed the recommendations of the Taxi Advisory Group to the MTA.

Executive director Jordanna Thigpen outlined recommendations designed to bring San Francisco's taxi regulation into compliance with state law.

November 25

Executive Director Jordanna Thigpen gave an overview of the first quarterly clean air report.

The commission discussed the creation of a working group to recommend how to spend the proceeds of the Taxi Wrap Benefit Fund.

It approved amendments to the Taxi Rules and Regulations, including a change that would allow medallion holders to get credit for shifts driven under a different medallion if their own cab is unavailable.
